SPECIALIZATION OF BIOREACTOR TECHNIQUES IN THE TREND OF BIOTECHNOLOGY

Introduction:
Bioreactor and Bioseparation techniques are the two essential technical platforms. Bioseparation engineering plays a key role in the field of biotechnology. At present, many difficulties need to be resolved in this area. The current situation and development prospects of bioreactor techniques are systematically discussed, starting with the elucidation of bioreactor processes and the principle of process optimization. Separation technology for biological products is also briefly introduced. Besides giving a detailed discussion on the basic principles and practices, the programme has provided hands-on experience in downstream processing and fermentation

The course contents have been taught by eminent experts in the field, having adequate teaching and research experience. This course will be beneficial to faculty from Biotechnology and Chemical Engineering discipline as a potential analytical tool in their research activities. This course is aimed at training new faculty so that they gain knowledge from the basic concepts to application and reviews.

INAUGURATION:
The programme was inaugurated by Dr. R.Alwar Ramanujam, Scientist F& Head, Central Leather Research Institute, Mr.N.Marie Wilson & Mrs. Regeena Wilson the Directors, Jeppiaar Engineering College and Dr.Susil Lal Das, Principal, Jeppiaar Engineering College on 19-04-10 at 9.00 AM in the Auditorium-II in Jeppiaar Engineering College. Ms.A.Muthulakshmi Principal Coordinator presented a report on the programme. Keynote address on “Introduction to Bioreactor Techniques” presented by the Chief Guest Dr. R.Alwar Ramanujam. The program was attended by all the Participants, along with other Heads of the Departments and Professors.

Objective of the Programme:
• This programme will provide a comprehensive and structured exposure to Bioreactor Techniques.
• Exposure to Bioreactor and downstream processing Techniques.

Resource Persons:

The resource persons with Bioreactor specializations were from Central Leather Research Institute, IIT – Madras, Anna University, National Institute of Technology - Trichy , Madras University, SRM University, Bannari Amman Institute of Technology, SSN College of Engineering.
